Rare resident.
Larvae In dead wood below the bark, especially drier standing branches of Quercus spp. and Fagus sylvatica. Has also been bred from dead stems of Hedera helix.
Flies May/June with larva feeding from December to March.
Can be found in numbers in swarming flights early in the morning.
Some indication of possible expansion with a few recent, albeit isolated records away from known colonies.
