An uncommon species of meadows, marshes, open woodland. The larvae feed of the flowers and seed capsules of the foodplant. Adults are easily disturbed during the day and later come to light.

Note can be confused with the much commoner Udea prunalis but that species is darker, lacks the yellowish gloss and has wider and darker stigmata.
