A common resident.

Found in a range of mainly damp habitats as well as in gardens.

Overwinters as a small larva. Adults come readily to light and also visit flowers at night.

Note The rare Lemke's Gold Spot is similar but in that species the large white triangle near the wing tip is blunt-ended but on this species it has an acute point.
