A very rare species largely confined to one site in Worcestershire but with a 2022 record in Shropshire.

A species woodland and copses containing elm.

Overwinters as an egg and males come readily to light; the females less so.

Note distinguished from Lunar-spotted and Lesser-spotted Pinions by its much bolder white markings on the leading edge of the forewing.
