A fairly common resident in the north, less so in the south.
A species of moorland and upland areas as well as woodland, fens and some gardens.
Overwinters as a full-grown larva while adults are attracted to light and to sugar.
Note can be confused with the commoner Cabbage but in that species there is not a solid black bar connecting the second and third cross-lines. Verification Grade Comment: Ideally take a photo.
