An uncommon resident across the region.
Found in a wide range of open, grassy places.
Overwinters as a pupa while adults are attracted to light.
Note the Lychnis is the main confusion species. Fresh Campions have a pinkish marbling that the browner Lychnis doesn't. The kidney and oval marks more or less meet whereas on Lychnis they are well separated. On Campion the terminal line is wavy throughout but on Lychnis it smooths out towards the trailing edge. Recorded in 68 (49%) of 140 10k Squares. First Recorded in 1887. Last Recorded in 2023. (Data up to end 2023) |
