A fairly common resident, more so in the south.
More often found in damp and open broadleaved woodland but sometimes in parks and gardens.
Overwinters as a larva. The adults come to light and to sugar but also visit flowers.
Note most resembles Double Square-spot but that species has a broader wing and doesn't have the pinkish tinge. Recorded in 89 (64%) of 140 10k Squares. First Recorded in 1900. Last Recorded in 2022. (Data up to end 2022) |
