A fairly common resident.

A species of open woodland, hedgerows, carr and occasionally moorland, parkland and gardens.

Overwinters as a pupa and adults come regularly to light.

Note Can be confused mainly with Polar Kitten. In that species the outer cross-line is not so irregular and is heavily outlined in black in the leading half.
