Pink-barred Sallow
Xanthia togata

(Esper, 1788) 2273 / 73.181

A common resident across the region.

Most frequent in broadleaved woodland but also in carr, marshes and other places where the foodplants occur.

Overwinters as an egg and adults come to light and sugar.

Note can be confused with well-marked Sallows but that species has yellow shoulders and the lower end of the kidney mark is blackish. The wing tips of Pink-barred are slightly hooked but that is difficult to see in worn specimens.

Recorded in 103 (74%) of 140 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1857.
Last Recorded in 2023.
(Data up to end 2023)
