Lychnis
Hadena bicruris

(Hufnagel, 1766) 2173 / 73.281

A common resident across the region.

Found in a wide variety of habitats including gardens.

Overwinters as a pupa while adults are attracted to light.

Note the Campion is the main confusion species. Fresh Campions have a pinkish marbling that the browner Lychnis doesn't. The kidney and oval marks of Campion more or less meet whereas on Lychnis they are well separated. On Campion the terminal line is wavy throughout but on Lychnis it smooths out towards the trailing edge.

Recorded in 93 (66%) of 140 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1869.
Last Recorded in 2019.
