A fairly common species, especially in the south, but which is spreading. First noted in Staffordshire in 2002, now over 50 records.

Found in woodland and scrub where Field Maple is found.

Overwinters as an egg. Adults can be disturbed from foodplant and come to light.

Note Similar to Slender Pug with overlapping flight period. Maple often appears more yellowy-brown, generally more blotchy and with a narrower and less rounded wing.The discal spot is smaller and dark outer cross-line often uneven and broken.
